1. The room.

3. Room color

For a home theater, you will the room color to be as dark as possible. The reason? Bright colors will reflect light and make it distracting to the viewer. You also want to avoid gloss or semi-gloss sheens. Consider eggshell colors or flat paint for starters.

4. Speaker placement

Besides the color and the flooring, speaker placement is also important. Most home theaters will have 3.1 surround sound, so the speakers should be placed in strategic locations. Three speakers and a woofer should be placed in front, along with the two remaining speakers on either side of the viewing station. Moreover, the speakers should be at least 20 inches from the walls. Obviously, your center front speaker is the most important of them all and should be placed somewhere where it will appear that the dialogue from the movie is coming directly from the display.
